For the past three years weʻve been blessed to have a solid partnership with First Hawaiian Bank and it truly showed this summer. On July 13, FHB amassed a group of over 100 volunteers to give a few of their Saturday hours to help rebuild, reclaim, restore, and refresh our fishpond. Over the course of the day, the group was able to accomplish the following feats of strength and unity:
- moved over 5,000 pounds of rock and coral across Heʻeia stream
- removed and bagged about 4,000 pounds of invasive seaweed
- burned piles and piles of invasive mangrove stumps, sticks, and roots
To top it all off, FHBʻs amazing lunch crew served everyone Hawaiian food just to make sure we went to sleep after working hard all morning! Hū ka ʻono!! And if the day wasn’t already amazing, FHB then made a $2,500 donation to support our fishpond operations. Paepae o Heʻeia would like to express our sincere thanks to First Hawaiian Bank for their generosity and support of our organization and efforts here at Heʻeia Fishpond. We would also like to particularly recognize Jason Dang and Kati Kubo for their hard work to make it all possible.
Mahalo a nui loa!
