Welcome to another year of Lā Holoholo (Family Fishing Days) at Heʻeia Fishpond! This year we will host our Lā Holoholo one Saturday per month at Heʻeia Fishpond between April and September 2023. These are days when we invite the public to come and help us catch the carnivorous fish (papio, barracuda, toau, tilapia) from our fishpond to give the herbivorous fish (ʻamaʻama, awa, pualu) a better chance at survival.
While this activity helps us manage the fishpond for the kind of fish we want (herbivores), it’s also an awesome daytime event where you can enjoy the beauty and safety of Heʻeia Fishpond while going holoholo with family and friends.
The dates for our Lā Holoholo 2023 are as follows:
- Saturday April 15th
- Saturday May 20th
- Saturday June 17th
- Saturday July 22nd
- Saturday August 19th
- Saturday September 9th
We are now taking signups for the June 17th and July 22nd Lā Holoholo.
Signups for the Lā Holoholo events are through a lottery process. Follow the link below to add your information to our lottery. The lottery opens on Wednesday May 24th at 9am and closes Friday May 26th at 6pm. Donʻt worry about being first in the lottery, its completely random so just make sure you signup before the closing time. Also, any names we see multiple times will be deleted. Gotta be fair, right?
