Congratulations to these four fine fellahs who were selected as our Spring 2019 Kū Hou Kuapā interns. Theyʻll be working with us for about 4 months as they are introduced to a variety of skills and activities necessary to restore Heʻeia Fishpond. Here’s some tidbits about these wonderful gentlemen:
- Benji Ah Sing, of Kailua, was a KHK intern last fall and loved it so much he came back again! He currently also works at Hoʻokuaʻāina in Maunawili to grow kalo. He aspires to go back to school for a masters in social work and eventually wants to work with at-risk youth. He enjoys working both in the ʻāina and lokoiʻa, suring, playing music, and getting prepped for school.
- Akahele Howick, of Waiau and Waianae, is deeply passionate about his community and wants to do whatever it takes to affect positive change. He is currently studying Hawaiian Studies at UH and loves being a dad.
- Aokea West, of Kaʻaʻawa, is also returning for his second KHK internship. He works at Puohala Elementary school when he’s not with us and loves to hike, train in marshal arts, and be around good people.
- Jake Palimoʻo, of Kahuku, loves art and is a graphic designer. When he isn’t drawing, his hands are in the soil tending to his gardens with his grandparents. He is an firm believer in planting with intention, watching and tending to your seeds, and then enjoying the positive outcome of your labor.
Mahalo guys!
